SINAI PARK HOUSE TRUST CALLS ON COMMUNITY TO SHOW NATIONAL LOTTERY HERITAGE FUND PANEL THAT BURTON WANTS ITS OLDEST BUILDING SAVED.
Published: 27 May 2026
Sinai Park House Trust has launched a major May Crowdfunder campaign in a vital bid to save the historic site before the building is lost forever.
Trustees behind the restoration project warn that the building’s fragile timber framework is now at a critical point, with concerns that one more winter could leave it beyond viable restoration.
The campaign aims to raise £20,000 in immediate match funding support as part of the trust’s wider funding ambitions linked to its recent £3.8 million National Lottery Heritage Fund application, of which they await the decision. Between now and 2030, the trust must secure £500,000 in match funding.
Trustees say this marks one of the most significant moments yet in the effort to protect and revive one of Staffordshire’s most important heritage assets.
Sinai Park House Trustee Laura Wigg-Bailey says, “Now is the time to show the National Lottery Heritage Fund that Burton wants its oldest building saved! This is a vital piece of heritage not only for Burton but for the Midlands – if we do not act now, there will not be another chance to save it.
“National Lottery Heritage Fund are watching this Crowdfunder. The application assessment panel members will be watching the progress of this campaign to see how much local support there is for the project, so please consider donating, even a small amount will help and sharing the Crowdfunder with anyone and everyone you think might be interested. We need to show them that the community is behind this project.
“Our vision is to bring Sinai back to life as a place that supports learning, wellbeing, heritage, and community connection all year round.
“If you have ever wanted to visit or thought you would like to see Sinai restored, now is your chance to show that the people of Burton-upon-Trent care. The Crowdfunder has had a good start, but there’s still a really long way to go. This is a moment for the whole community to come together and help secure the future of a place that means so much to so many people.”
The trust’s long-term plans would see Sinai Park House transformed into an accessible heritage and wellbeing destination, hosting educational programmes, wellbeing activities, heritage events, volunteering opportunities, and nature-based experiences throughout the year.
As part of the Crowdfunder campaign, supporters can claim a range of exclusive rewards linked to Sinai Park House itself during the restoration project. These include 300 tour and cream tea experiences, 20 Restoration Retreats, and 10 overnight stays for two at Sinai.
Businesses supporting the Crowdfunder will also have the opportunity to have their company name featured on a dedicated supporter’s wall displayed in a prominent location throughout the restoration – offering donors the opportunity to become directly involved in the site’s restoration journey.
Trustees say the supporters wall will recognise those helping secure Sinai’s future at this crucial stage, with hundreds of visitors expected to visit the site during the restoration works, including the trust’s high-profile Guild Members and project supporters.
Laura Wigg-Bailey added, “We want everyone who supports this campaign to feel part of Sinai’s future. Whether you are an individual donor, volunteer, or local business, your support will help us protect this extraordinary site, which is now at a crucial turning point, bringing Sinai back to life for the wider community to enjoy.”
